PRACTICE REVIEW 23/10

Hi guys. This morning's PSI level was 66, which was moderately healthy, and as such we were able to have PT. So, hope you've enjoyed the first PT after a long long time.

Todays's sectionals was quite ok; however there are some of you who need to improve on your tone. Please remember all the basics.

For Any Dream Will Do, take note of all your solo entries. The pitching for the first note is SELDOM accurate. Try to come in directly on the note, don't slide to the note. Also, some of your high notes (not the maestoso part) are a bit strained. Please use falsetto or go lighter if you cannot reach the note. DO NOT USE YOUR THROAT TO BLAST THE HIGH NOTE. By the way, the 'high note' is only an E4; it should be comfortable for tenors. For the maestoso part, try not to go flat on your 'give me my COLOURED coat'.

For When You Believe, take note of all the syncopated rhythms. Remember the notes with a dot behind are longer and the quavers are EQUAL. Also, for the part where the song transits to Eb major, try to pitch the Eb4 properly. Please look at justin when he is conducting, because some parts of the song may be slowed down or sped up to heighten the effects.

Here is a list of all the performance directions used in both songs:

moderato = at a moderate speed
pp = very soft
p = soft
mp = moderately soft
mf = moderately loud
f = loud
ff = very loud
cresc/crescendo/< = getting louder decresc/ decrescendo/ > = getting softer
rit/ritard/ ritardando = getting slower
maestoso = majestic/ grand
andante = at a walking pace
suddenly spirited = suddenly spirited (:P)
molto = very, molto rit = very getting slower
